Master Craps – Tips and Schemes: The Past of Craps

Be clever, play smart, and learn how to play craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about one hundred years old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French headed south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and across the country. A good many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In 1907, Winn developed the current craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so players could bet on the dice to not win. Later, he created the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.

Bettors at a Craps Game

If you are wanting excitement, noise and more enjoyment than you can likely endure, then craps is the only game to enjoy.

Craps is a quick-paced game with high-rollers, budget gamblers, and everybody in between. If you are a people-watcher this is one casino game that you’ll absolutely enjoy observing. There is the whale, playing with a large bankroll and making boisterous declarations when he bets across the board, "$520 across," you’ll hear him say. He’s the player to watch at this game and they know it. The whale will either win big or lose big and there’s no in between.

There is the budget gambler, most likely trying to acquaint himself with the high-roller. they will let the other bettors of books she’s read on dice tossing and hang around the most accomplished tosser at the craps table, all set to confer and "pick each others brains".

There’s the devotee of Frank Scoblete most recent craps class. Even though Frank is the very best there is, his disciple needs to do his homework. This guy will require 5 mins to setup his dice, so apply patience.

My preferred players at the table are the undeniable chaps from the good old times. These elderly gentlemen are usually patient, almost always kind and will very likely always give pointers from the "good old days."

When you take the chance and choose to join the game, make sure you use appropriate etiquette. Find a position on the rail and place your cash down in front of you in the "come" area. Refrain from doing this when the pair of dice are moving or you’ll be known as the final personality I wished to mention, the jerk.
