The History of Casino Craps
Posted in Craps on 03/06/2010 07:21 pm by PhilipThe recorded history of Craps dates all the way back to a dice game called Hazard, which dates all the way back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in Eightteen Thirteen. Hazard is thought to be a descendant of Azzahr, which means ‘the die’ a game enjoyed by Arabs.
The game developed as it spread out from the Arab regions to France and then to England. By the early eighteenth century, formal established rules for Hazard had been established. France started playing the English variation of Hazard and is thought to have been imported to America by early French settlers. In the mid-Eighteenth century, when the English defeated the French in Canada, the French settlers moved to Louisiana. Dice were enjoyed on river boats, casinos and wharfs and a simplified ‘American’ variation of Craps was developed. The game moved west and is a favored game that is participated in all over the United States and around the world.
The name ‘Craps’ is believed to be a French articulation of the word crabs, which alludes to a pair of ‘1s’. There are two basic types of Craps that are wagered on-street Craps and casino Craps. Street caps, accurately named seeing as it’s bet on the streets is where a player sets a point and then attempts to acquire that point. The wagering is made either with or opposed to the hurler and another person must cover the bet in order for the game of craps to continue.
In bank Craps, which is the accepted game, bet on in casinos, the betting house banks the casino game. The participants bet against the house-the casino covers all of the wagers of all of the individuals. Craps used to be a very loved game but in the past twenty years had divided itself and different games, such as poker and black jack became more popular. However, Craps is experiencing a come back in recognition once again in internet betting houses and in real casinos.
