Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps formed from the old Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when exiled by the British, the French moved south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is derived from the term for the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
